ith the rapid adoption of digital technologies, the proliferation of IoT, remote work and increasing constraints of resources due to the COVID-19 pandemic, what is the importance of a sustainable cybersecurity ecosystem?

This thought inspired the inception of Security Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI). SERI is a global platform for academicians, researchers, industry professionals and security experts to come together and deliberate on the latest developments in the cybersecurity ecosystem.

The second edition of National CoE’s SERI was held on 23 November 2021 in partnership with Microsoft India and CRC Press Taylor & Francis Group.

SERI 2021 revolved around the theme ‘Advanced Development in the Areas of Cryptography, Applied Cryptography, Cyber Security and Privacy’.

The event was inaugurated by Rama Vedashree, CEO at Data Security Council of India and Shri Arvind Kumar, Scientist G, DG STQC and Group Coordinator at Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The leaders set the tone for an effective convention and weaved the goals for the conference in their inaugural keynote and welcome address.

The event saw maximum participation of professionals from industry and academic communities looking to gain new insights into cybersecurity trends from global experts.

The conference included a high-quality and focused technical program on cyber security and cryptography with keynotes and panel discussions from prominent industry and academia experts around the globe like Prof. Tal Pavel, Founder & Director, The Institute for Cyber Policy Studies, Israel, Prof. Monica Whitty, Director of the UNSW Institute for Cyber Security, University of New South Wales, Australia, Dr. Surya Nepal, Group Leader and Sr. Principal Research Scientist, Distributed Systems Security CSIRO, Australia and Dr. S. Picek, Assistant professor Radboud University, The Netherlands.

Vinayak Godse, Senior Vice President at Data Security Council of India delivered a special presentation introducing the newly launched National CoE utility tools. The speaker emphasised the need to leverage the utilities to achieve transparency in the workflows and foster collaboration and new research and development opportunities in the cybersecurity industry.

During the event day, the attendees had the opportunity to choose among various track sessions to discuss topics and develop recommendations. At the end of each session, attendees shared interesting perspectives on the topic and reached out to panellists with interesting questions. The event platform also offered a virtual networking lobby functionality for attendees to mingle, network and connect with peers and leaders.

The event concluded with a panel discussion on the topic “Cyber First …This and Next Generation” and a simultaneous showcase of research papers. The paper presentation session witnessed researchers indulge in ground-breaking discussions on various domains of cybersecurity.

SERI also announced three awards Best Paper, Best Presentation, and Runner-Up during the paper presentation session.

The second edition of SERI received overwhelmingly positive responses from attendees, organisers, partners and speakers. SERI 2021 was a huge success and accomplished its goal of facilitating discussions to enhance the cybersecurity ecosystem.
